**\[00:00\]** **Sean:** Hi, my name is Sean Smith. I'm the host of Website 101 Podcast. You're checking this out, wondering what is Website 101 Podcast all about.

Well, the goal of this podcast is to talk to business owners about their websites without all the jargon to help them understand everything that's involved from the ground up how to improve their website, how to do it themselves, how to work with an expert.

Basically, each episode is going to look at different parts of owning a website or having a business that's online and give you tips and advice on how to do it yourself, how to work with an industry expert, or how to choose an industry expert.

Things to be concerned about, gotchas, some best practices, things like that.

Each episode is going to be an interview with me and another industry expert on that topic of the day.

So right now, I'd like to introduce myself. As I said, my name is Sean Smith. I have 14 years of experience working in websites, front end development, working with various CMSs such as Craft CMS, Expression Engine and Statomic, those are the three that I like the best.

In 2008, I started my own company called Caffeine Creations.

In 2011 to 2012, I briefly worked with Alice Lab, the Creators of Expression Engine, providing technical support to end users. That could be the business owner who's on the website or other developers and designers who helped build the website.

I've been full time on my own since 2013 and I love building websites, I love helping clients, and the main goal for me of this podcast is to help people understand all that's involved in running your website.

I've had several friends or potential clients contact me and they don't understand the full scope of what's involved in running an online business.

I've had some clients come in and ask me to help them make a full e-commerce website. We went through this whole discovery process and then I asked them to budget and it was $200. There's no way that you can build a full website, let alone an e-commerce solution for $200.

Part of the point of this podcast is to help people understand everything that's involved. If you want to do the work yourself to help you understand the full scope of everything that's needed to have a successful website. You will learn things that will help you do different aspects of it on your own.

We'll talk about what an industry professional can bring to it, their experience, their knowledge, and how that can help you to take your business and your website to the next level.

Do you really want to put all the time you need into a website or do you need to put that time into your business and hire a professional?

Regardless, some people may not have the budget to hire a business professional, especially when they're first starting out. If you have it, I suggest you do it. If you don't, take the tips for do-it-selfers that we're going to provide in this podcast and use those to make the best website you can.

How I have planned this podcast is I'm going to record an entire season at a time and then release it once every week or once every couple of weeks. While that's being released, I'm going to record the next season. Currently, I have 10 episodes ready to go out.

Some of the topics are how to plan and structure the goals of your website, web design shortcuts you should never take. The final episode for season 1 is comparing, do it yourself to bespoke or custom website. This is a really good discussion on the advantages of both. The final decision is up to the owner of the website what they want to do.

Additionally, in the each episode, there's no idle chit chat. Basically, I introduce my guest and we jump right in. Unlike some podcasts where they don't get into the topic for the first five minutes or so, I get right into it. You won't find any irrelevant chatter at all.

Additionally, I have enough episodes planned for two more seasons. This podcast is here for the long haul. However, I'm also looking for suggestions from listeners about topics that they would like to learn more about.

You can send these suggestions by visiting website 101podcast.com, slash contact and filling in the form. Tell me what topics are interesting to you. You can also recommend a guest, somebody who's an expert in their field. Maybe it's somebody you've worked with or a friend or a colleague that you feel would give knowledge and be beneficial for other listeners of this podcast.

Some of the topics that I have planned for season two or three are website hosted. What to do when your current web firm isn't working out? So maybe you have a bad relationship or your relationship with your current web developer has soured and what's the best way to go about fixing it or moving on. We're going to talk about GDPR and legal issues, email, how much does a website cost and many more topics.

The average length of an episode is 40 to 45 minutes, a couple of shorter, a couple of longer, but that's a target.

Thank you for listening. Be sure to subscribe and share our website 101podcast with friends and colleagues. You can find me at website 101podcast.com on Twitter, these are named at website 101pod.
